Samsung Group Donates 3 Billion Won for Flood Recovery, Also Provides Relief Supplies and Shelters

[Financial News] Samsung Group said on the 28th that it had donated 3 billion won to comfort residents hit hard by torrential rains in Geoje and Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, and Andong and Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, and to support recovery efforts. 
Nine affiliates took part in the donation, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T Corporation, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Display Co., Ltd., Samsung SDI Co., Ltd., Samsung Electro-Mechanics, SDS, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, and Samsung Heavy Industries.
Samsung Heavy Industries joined the donation despite suffering some damage from the heavy rain itself, saying it wanted to help the local community.
In addition to the 3 billion won relief donation, Samsung Group also provided emergency relief supplies and shelters to flood victims, and offered financial support to customers affected by the torrential rains. 
For residents in the affected areas, Samsung Group plans to provide 1,000 sets of emergency relief supplies and 300 disaster relief shelters, which are tent-style temporary living spaces, produced with support from the Korean Red Cross. The emergency kits include essential daily necessities such as blankets, sportswear, towels, and toiletries.
Since 2005, Samsung Group has donated money to the Korean Red Cross every year to help secure disaster relief equipment and emergency aid supplies. 
Samsung Card Co., Ltd. will provide financial support to customers affected by the torrential rains. For customers whose credit card bills are due between August and October this year, it will allow payment deferrals of up to six months. It will also let customers pay scheduled amounts in six monthly installments without interest. The company will cut card loan interest by up to 30%, and customers whose long-term card loans mature by the end of October will be eligible for maturity extensions.
Whenever major disasters occur at home or abroad, Samsung Group actively joins social efforts to overcome the crisis. Last July, when heavy rain hit the country, including South Gyeongsang Province and South Chungcheong Province, Samsung Group donated 3 billion won. In March of the same year, during wildfires in North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang Province, and Ulsan, it also donated 3 billion won in relief funds and electronics worth 1 billion won. It also provided emergency relief kits and free inspections for water-damaged appliances. 
In 2023, Samsung Group also provided 3 billion won to help residents in the Chungcheong and Gyeongsang regions recover from severe flood damage, and donated 3 billion won in relief funds to support recovery from wildfires in Gangwon State, South Chungcheong Province, North Gyeongsang Province, and Jeollanam-do.
Including this latest donation for flood recovery, Samsung Group has given more than 130 billion won in total to help overcome domestic disasters and emergencies since 1995.
In addition, when a major wildfire broke out in Los Angeles, United States, in 2025, Samsung Group donated electronics worth $1 million, including home appliances, tablets, and PCs. When a massive earthquake struck Turkey in 2023, it also provided emergency aid worth a total of $3 million, including relief funds and supplies for disaster recovery.
