The opposition party promised to look after young people, but only half attended the youth event at its retreat

But only half of its lawmakers showed up, and empty seats were visible throughout the venue.
On the second day of the People Power Party lawmakers' retreat in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on the 28th, the party held a "youth talk" program to hear young people's voices directly. Panelists shared the difficulties they face in areas such as housing, stocks, taxes, and employment, while People Power Party lawmakers listened.
The People Power Party had previously stressed its intention to actively reflect young people's voices in policy. The goal was to hear directly about issues closely tied to young people's lives, such as housing and jobs, and then seek policy solutions during the upcoming regular National Assembly session.
However, despite that commitment, only about 50 lawmakers were in the room when the youth talk began. Given that the People Power Party has 109 lawmakers in total, that is roughly half. Many of the seats prepared for lawmakers were also left empty.
That stood in contrast to the first day of the retreat. The previous day, only 11 lawmakers were absent due to illness, overseas business trips, and other reasons. That meant about 90% of the party's 109 lawmakers attended. Former President Park Geun-hye also visited the retreat in person and called for unity within the party, while party leader Jang Dong-hyuk stressed that the party must stand together to keep the Lee Jae-myung administration in check.
