[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung said on the 28th that the sharp decline in the number of suicide deaths was "the most meaningful and the biggest achievement among our government's many accomplishments," and stressed that the figure should be cut in half again from its current level.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Lee said, "This may be a topic that is difficult for the public to feel directly, but the sharp decline in the number of suicide deaths is the most meaningful and the biggest achievement among our government's many accomplishments."
He added, "What could be more precious than a human life?" and said, "I deeply thank and commend the Prime Minister, who is in overall charge, as well as the relevant officials and workers involved in this effort, and I ask you to keep up the good work."
Lee said, "However, there is still a long way to go," adding, "We must reduce the current number of suicide deaths by another half."
He pointed to improved livelihoods as the fundamental solution to the suicide problem. Lee emphasized, "While practical measures such as manpower, organization, and budget are important, the most fundamental solution is to build a society full of hope, and the key to creating hope is improving the issues of daily living, in other words, people's livelihoods."
He added, "That is why the government has focused on the economy and livelihoods, and why it was most urgent to turn economic growth, which had fallen into the 0% range, back upward. Let us build a hopeful world together."
