KASI Senior Researcher Park Jong-wook Elected as First Korean COSPAR Executive Committee Member

[Financial News] Park Jong-wook, a senior researcher at KASI, has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), the world's largest international academic organization in the field of space science.
On the 28th, KASI said that COSPAR is an international academic organization established to promote international cooperation and scholarly exchange in space science. Scientists and related institutions from around the world take part in discussions on major issues and future directions in space research. In particular, the regularly held COSPAR Scientific Assembly is regarded as a leading international conference where space science researchers from different countries share their latest findings.
COSPAR recently announced six new Executive Committee members who will serve for the next four years at the 46th COSPAR Council meeting held in Florence, Italy. This is the first time a Korean has been elected to COSPAR's Executive Committee.
The COSPAR Executive Committee is the key decision-making body that discusses and determines the organization's major policies and operational direction. As a committee member, Park Jong-wook will take part in COSPAR's major projects, international cooperation activities, and academic exchanges for the next four years starting in August, contributing to broader collaboration with the global space science community.
Park Jong-wook said, "I am honored to have been elected to the COSPAR Executive Committee," adding, "I will do my best to communicate closely with the international space science community, promote Korea's research capabilities in space science, and help domestic researchers engage more actively in exchanges and cooperation on the global stage."
Meanwhile, Korea joined COSPAR in 2011, and in 2024, the year KASA was launched, it successfully hosted the COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Busan.
