Magnitude 2.2 Earthquake Strikes Haenam; 10 Quakes in Two Weeks

At 7:44:26 a.m. on the 28th, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake struck an area 21 km northwest of Haenam County in South Jeolla Province.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, the epicenter was located at 34.66 degrees north latitude and 126.40 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of 21 km. The maximum instrumental intensity was measured at level II. Intensity II means that only a few people in quiet settings or on the upper floors of buildings may feel the shaking.
A total of 10 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or higher have occurred in and around Haenam since the 14th.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) raised the earthquake crisis alert to the “Caution” level as a preemptive response to the repeated quakes in the area.
