Jeju to See Up to 60 mm of Rain This Weekend, but Heat Will Still Reach 33 C as Tropical Nights and Swells Persist

[Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jung Yong-bok] Rain of up to 60 mm is expected in Jeju Province ahead of the weekend, but daytime temperatures will climb to 33 C, keeping the heat and tropical nights in place.
According to the Jeju Meteorological Administration on the 28th, Jeju Province will be mostly cloudy, with occasional rain in some areas.
Expected rainfall ranges from 5 to 60 mm. Even within Jeju Province, rainfall amounts may vary widely depending on how rain clouds develop and move, and some areas may see brief breaks in the rain.
The probability of rain by area as of the morning is 60 percent in Jeju and Seogwipo, 70 percent in Seongsan, and 60 percent in Gosan Meteorological Observatory. Rain is also expected in mountainous and mid-mountain areas, with a 60 percent chance in Sanchundan, 60 percent in Hannam, and 70 percent in Seongpanak.
On the 29th, rain will continue mainly in mountainous and mid-mountain areas. Expected rainfall for Jeju Province is 5 to 40 mm. Coastal areas are likely to see longer dry intervals. On the 30th, occasional rain is also expected in some areas, with 5 to 30 mm forecast.
The rain will do little to ease the heat. Daytime highs in Jeju Province on the 28th are expected to range from 31 to 33 C. Jeju and Seogwipo are forecast to reach 33 C, Gosan Meteorological Observatory 32 C, and Seongsan 31 C. Highs are expected to remain at 31 to 32 C on the 29th and around 31 C on the 30th.
Morning temperatures will also stay high. The low on the 29th is forecast at 27 C in Jeju and 26 C in Seogwipo, Seongsan and Gosan Meteorological Observatory, raising the likelihood that tropical nights will continue as temperatures fail to drop much overnight.
On the 27th, daytime highs in Jeju Province ranged from 32.1 to 34.4 C, well above the seasonal average of 28.3 to 29.4 C. Morning lows also stood at 26.2 to 27.9 C, higher than the average of 22.8 to 23.9 C.
Sea conditions will also remain rough. Waves in the waters off Jeju Province are expected to range from 1.0 to 3.5 meters on the 28th. In the southern, eastern and western waters, waves may briefly rise to 1.5 to 3.5 meters in the morning.
In the outer southern waters off Jeju Province, waves are forecast at 2.0 to 4.0 meters in the morning, while the East China Sea could see waves of 3.0 to 5.5 meters. The western waters off Kyushu are also expected to see waves of 2.0 to 3.5 meters.
Strong winds are also expected, with east or southeast winds of 12 to 20 meters per second forecast over the East China Sea. Winds of 10 to 16 meters per second are expected in the outer southern waters off Jeju Province.
The Jeju Meteorological Administration warned that swells will move toward the coast from the 28th to the 29th and that waves may rise sharply at sea, urging caution near the shoreline and for vessel operations.
