Outrage as Woman Clambers onto Turtle Shell While Holding Child [Video]

[Financial News] A female visitor at a famous zoo in China has sparked public outrage after she was seen standing on the shell of a live turtle.
According to a report by HK01 on the 27th, local time in Korea, the woman stepped onto the turtle's shell at Zhanglu Resort Zoo in Guangdong Province on the 21st while holding her daughter in her arms.
In the video released with the report, the turtle can be seen struggling in apparent pain as the woman stands on it. The woman then appeared excited and even encouraged her son, who was behind her, to climb on as well.
A witness at the scene said, "She even kicked the turtle before climbing onto its back," adding, "Instead of stopping the children's bad behavior, the parent led the abuse of the animal."
The witness also criticized the zoo for its poor management. "Even though the turtle and other animals were being abused, there was not a single zoo employee on site trying to stop it," the witness said, expressing regret.
As the video spread through social networking service platforms and the controversy grew, the zoo issued an apology. It said, "We will closely examine the turtle's health," and added, "We acknowledge our lack of on-site management and will strengthen patrols and sanctions going forward."
A turtle's shell is connected to its spine and ribs, and its interior is densely packed with nerves and tiny blood vessels. If a person puts their weight on it, the shell can crack or the spine can be damaged. In severe cases, the pressure can also compress internal organs and lead to internal bleeding.
