Ulsan Metropolitan Council Marks 74-Year History with Former Lawmakers' Gathering

[Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Soo-sang] The Ulsan Metropolitan Council held the "Former Lawmakers' Gathering" on the 27th at Bellagio Hall on the second floor of Ulsan City Convention, under the theme "Carrying on Tradition, Opening the Future Together."
The event was attended by about 70 current and former city council members, including Council Chair Lee Young-hae and Lee Jin-yong, head of the Ulsan Metropolitan City Council Members' Association. Kim Sang-wook, Mayor of Ulsan, also attended.
Participants looked back on the council's history and shared the experience and wisdom of former lawmakers. They also exchanged views on Ulsan's future development and the direction of local autonomy.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Council began as a township and village council on April 25, 1952, when 214 members were elected from 17 townships and villages in the first township and village council election. It remained in place until 1960, but was dissolved on September 1, 1961, under Proclamation No. 4 of the Military Revolutionary Committee of May 16. After a 30-year hiatus, the Ulsan Metropolitan Council was reopened in 1991 with 50 members. On July 15, 1997, Ulsan was elevated to metropolitan city status, and the council was also converted into a metropolitan council. It is now in its 9th term.
