[Financial News] BUKWANG PHARMACEUTICAL IND CO.,LTD will invest 24 billion won in its Ansan Plant to build a state-of-the-art automated warehouse in response to expanding pharmaceutical production. The company said it aims to upgrade not only its production facilities but also its logistics system for raw materials and finished products, boosting productivity and supply stability at the same time. BUKWANG PHARMACEUTICAL IND CO.,LTD announced on the 26th that it will break ground on the new automated warehouse this month and push ahead with the project, targeting completion and full-scale operation in September 2027.
Once the new warehouse is completed, storage capacity at the Ansan Plant will increase nearly threefold, from 1,500 cells to 4,500 cells. The company plans to design the facility with a vertical, high-rise structure to address the space limitations of the existing manual warehouse and secure room for future expansion.
The warehouse will be equipped with racks, stacker cranes, a Warehouse Management System (WMS), GMP-compliant facilities and various support systems. Through this setup, the company plans to integrate logistics operations from the receipt and storage of raw materials and finished products to their shipment.
The automation is also expected to improve operating efficiency. BUKWANG PHARMACEUTICAL IND CO.,LTD expects staffing needs to fall by about 60%, while logistics routes will also be shortened. Processing time for loading and unloading per cell will drop from 10 minutes to 38 seconds, and storage currently split across seven locations will be consolidated into one.
The investment also reflects efforts to secure logistics infrastructure ahead of higher production volumes. The company said the automated warehouse will provide the foundation for an additional annual output of about 200 million tablets and create extra production capacity worth roughly 26 billion won in sales.
BUKWANG PHARMACEUTICAL IND CO.,LTD is aiming to establish a production system for 1.2 billion tablets by 2029. The company decided to build a new automated warehouse because expanding the existing manual warehouse would secure only about 50% of the required storage capacity.
A BUKWANG PHARMACEUTICAL IND CO.,LTD official said, "We decided to build the automated warehouse to prepare in advance for the 1.2 billion-tablet production system targeted for 2029 and to resolve the saturation of the existing manual warehouse." The official added, "We will strengthen supply stability and market competitiveness by maximizing productivity, improving labor efficiency and enhancing our ability to respond to regulations at the same time."
