KOSPI Holds Gains Above 6,890 on Institutional and Foreign Buying [Afternoon Market Update]

On the afternoon of the 26th, the closing prices of the KOSPI and other indices were displayed on an electronic board in the dealing room at the KEB Hana Bank Head Office in Jung District, Seoul. [Financial News] The KOSPI is rising by more than 1% on buying from institutions and foreign investors.
As of 2:35 p.m. on the day, the KOSPI was trading at 6,896.47, up 88.26 points, or 1.30%, from the previous session. It opened at 6,996.12, up 187.91 points, or 2.76%, before trimming its gains.
On the Korea Exchange Main Board, institutions and foreign investors were net buyers of 152.7 billion won and 45.3 billion won, respectively. Individual investors were net sellers of 1.7536 trillion won.
Among the large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (1.72%), SK hynix (2.01%), SK Square (1.13%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (4.36%), LG Energy Solution (5.70%) and KB Financial Group (0.96%) were higher. Hyundai Motor Company (-2.82%), Samsung Biologics (-0.88%), Samsung C&T Corporation (-3.87%) and Samsung Life Insurance (-0.65%) were weaker.
By sector, electricity and electronics (2.42%), metals (2.28%), manufacturing (1.85%), medical and precision instruments (1.58%) and nonmetals (0.58%) were strong. Electricity and gas (-3.33%), retail (-2.62%), real estate (-1.68%), food and tobacco (-1.53%), pharmaceuticals (-1.29%) and textiles and apparel (-1.27%) were lower.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 835.56, up 8.69 points, or 1.05%, from the previous session. It opened at 828.42, up 1.55 points, or 0.19%, from the previous trading day.
In the KOSDAQ market, foreign investors and institutions were buying 71.2 billion won and 39.6 billion won worth of shares, respectively. Individual investors were selling 108.9 billion won worth.
