More High-Speed Train Services in Jeonbuk Ease Seat Shortages

Jeonbuk State said on the 27th that the number of high-speed trains operating on the Honam Line and the Jeolla Line will increase starting September 1.
The repeated shortage of train seats is expected to ease somewhat.
The measure follows the government’s policy task of expanding transport innovation infrastructure. It is part of a plan jointly promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, KORAIL, and SR Corporation to integrate high-speed rail services and improve service quality.
Until now, residents of Jeonbuk have had to check seat availability one by one by logging into the KorailTalk (KTX-Sancheon) and SRT apps separately in order to buy tickets.
However, on August 3, the integrated booking app Korail+ officially launched, allowing users to search and reserve tickets for both trains in one place. This has improved convenience for rail passengers.
From September 1, the number of services will also increase. On the Honam Line, which has often sold out on weekends and been difficult to book, weekday services will rise by 12 a day, from 92 to 104, while weekend services will increase by 10 a day, from 96 to 106. That will add 7,911 seats on weekdays and 8,305 seats on weekends.
The Jeolla Line will also add five services a day on weekdays, from 40 to 45, and nine on weekends, from 46 to 55. That will create 2,050 additional weekday seats and 2,507 more weekend seats.
High-speed trains to Suseo have also been expanded. On the Jeolla Line, the number of daily services has doubled from four to eight, while the Honam Line will add two to three more services, improving access to the southeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.
Choi Jeong-il, director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Jeonbuk State Government, said, "We will work closely with local lawmakers so that the expansion of high-speed rail services in our province can be further increased in line with the completion of the Pyeongtaek–Osong double-track project, which is intended to solve the shortage of track capacity."
