Prosecutor Park Sang-yong appears before police over allegations of refusing to take oath and insulting the National Assembly: "A baseless accusation"

[Financial News] Park Sang-yong, a deputy chief prosecutor at the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, appeared before police on the 27th after being accused of refusing to take a witness oath and insulting the National Assembly during a National Assembly investigation.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is questioning Park, who is under suspicion of violating the Act on Testimony and Appraisal before the National Assembly, as a suspect.
At around 9:50 a.m., Park arrived at the Metropolitan Investigation Unit building in Mapo District and said, "The National Assembly special committee on the state investigation filed a complaint against me for refusing to take the oath and insulting the National Assembly based on absurd claims, and police are now even pushing ahead with an investigation on that basis." He added, "The country's capabilities should be used to protect the lives and safety of the people," and argued, "Investigative authority should not be abused and investigative resources should not be wasted like this."
Park had appeared as a witness twice before the National Assembly special committee on the state investigation into allegations of politically motivated fabricated indictments by the prosecution under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, on April 3 and 14, but refused to take the oath.
The special committee filed a complaint with police in May, saying Park had refused to take the witness oath without justifiable reason and had not followed the chairperson's order to leave the chamber.
Park says he had a legitimate reason to refuse the oath because an investigation into him was already under way. He also argued on the day, "The law says that a person who is under investigation has the right to refuse to take the oath."
Controversy is also continuing over the precedent cited in the National Assembly's complaint. Park raised questions about the credibility of the complaint, saying the case number listed in it referred to a case unrelated to refusing to take an oath or testify.
Before Park's appearance, the People Power Party's special committee to block the cancellation of President Lee Jae-myung's trial also held a press conference in front of the Metropolitan Investigation Unit building and criticized the police investigation.
Joo Jin-woo, the committee chairperson, said, "The complaint filed with the National Assembly includes details of a precedent that does not even exist," and argued that the investigation into Park should be halted.
