Man in His 60s Violates Nighttime Curfew Imposed for Sex Offense Against a Minor

[Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In] A man in his 60s who had been ordered to observe a nighttime curfew was fined after leaving his residence in the early morning hours.
The Jeonju District Court said on the 27th that it had fined A, 67, 100,000 won for violating the Act on the Attachment of Electronic Devices, among other offenses.
He had been released from prison after serving time for sex offenses against minors.
A was indicted for leaving his residence without a valid reason between 2:36 a.m. and 4:12 a.m. on Oct. 9 last year.
He had previously received six years in prison in 2011 for rape after trespassing and five years in prison in 2020 for forcible molestation of a minor. He was also subject to electronic monitoring until 2039 and barred from leaving home between midnight and 5 a.m.
For offenders deemed likely to reoffend, a court may order restrictions on leaving home during specific hours.
The bench said, "The defendant was ordered to serve a long-term electronic monitoring period along with a heavy sentence, yet he violated the conditions." It added, "However, we determined the punishment after considering that the violation was relatively minor because he stayed in another room within the same facility."
