"IU Sues Malicious Commenters, Victim of False Rumors Linking Her to Jeju Missing Person Case"

[Financial News] Singer and actress IU is continuing legal action against malicious commenters, while false rumors linking her to a Jeju missing person case are spreading online.
A post recently appeared on social media claiming, "I was sued for defamation by IU."
The poster listed Kakao Corp.'s headquarters location, a man identified only by his surname, Heo, who went missing in Jeju in 2020, the purple tracksuit IU wore on the JTBC variety show 'Hyori's Homestay,' and her 2024 release 'Shh..' The writer then claimed that Heo was "the person who exposed IU on the internet."
The post, which tried to force a connection between the Jeju missing person case and IU, drew criticism online. Even so, it quickly spread after receiving thousands of likes.
IU's side has continued to respond to malicious posts, recently moving to identify commenters through a U.S. court. Her team believes that the commenter, identified as A, wrote 52 false posts that damaged her reputation.
Because A's identity has not been confirmed, the team requested evidence disclosure from Meta to secure materials needed for a defamation lawsuit underway in Korea.
A is reportedly accused of spreading claims of plagiarism, false allegations related to China, false claims about overseas achievements, suspicions of exploiting the deceased for marketing, and allegations of media manipulation and public opinion control. He is also said to have written and circulated posts linking song lyrics to national tragedies.
IU has also reportedly filed criminal complaints and civil lawsuits against a total of 96 people.
