Modern Art Master Jean-Michel Othoniel Holds First Exhibition in Busan

[Financial News] As a cooperative exhibition for World Design Capital Busan 2028, French contemporary art master Jean-Michel Othoniel's solo show, "Labyrinth Within Love," will run from the 28th through Dec. 31 at Seokcheon Hall in F1963.
According to Busan Metropolitan City Government on the 27th, the exhibition is an official collaborative project designed to connect F1963, one of Busan's signature urban regeneration assets, with world-class art content and expand World Design Capital Busan into a design experience woven into everyday life.
F1963 is a place that has been reborn as a new cultural space while preserving the value of an old industrial facility. It also aligns with the direction of World Design Capital Busan 2028, which seeks to create new value from existing resources.
Jean-Michel Othoniel is a French contemporary artist who has gained global acclaim for his distinctive works using glass beads, or bricks. His works are exhibited and held at major cultural institutions around the world, including the Louvre Museum in Paris, Centre Pompidou, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and Leeum Museum of Art.
Inspired by mythology, symbols, dreams, and healing, he has expressed his own artistic world through glass and light. This exhibition is his first in Busan and the largest solo show ever held in South Korea.
The opening ceremony was held at 4 p.m. that day at Seokcheon Hall and Dalbit Garden in F1963.
Through this exhibition, the city plans to promote Busan's urban brand competitiveness at home and abroad by highlighting the combination of industrial heritage, culture, art, and design. It also plans to continue identifying and pursuing a range of public-private partnership projects with F1963, including youth design programs and citizen participation projects.
Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, "It is meaningful to mark the 10th anniversary of F1963's opening with the first official collaborative exhibition for World Design Capital Busan 2028, featuring works by world-renowned artist Jean-Michel Othoniel." He added, "Through World Design Capital Busan 2028, in which citizens, companies, and designers all take part, we will continue to strengthen Busan's urban competitiveness and brand value."
