On the 27th, Hyundai Motor Group held the opening ceremony for the AI-Specialized Joint Training Center at the Hyundai Motor Group Global Win-Win Cooperation Center, a supplier-only training facility in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The event was attended by Yoon Jun-ho, executive vice president in charge of purchasing strategy at Hyundai Motor Group, Lee Byung-chan, chairman of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, and executives from major suppliers.
The AI-Specialized Joint Training Center is a systematic AI transformation support platform that provides customized, job-focused AI training based on quality, process, and data. It is designed to help parts suppliers that have long centered on internal combustion engines evolve into high-value-added future mobility parts makers centered on AI and data. The program combines Hyundai Motor Group's training infrastructure, supplier network, and expertise with government policy support in a public-private partnership model.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to first provide AI-focused practical training to about 900 employees from first- and second-tier suppliers this year. Starting next year, it will significantly expand the number of trainees and the scope of support to accelerate AX across the entire parts supply chain.
The training goes beyond simple theory and focuses on practical application in the field. It includes diagnosing suppliers' AI readiness and capability levels, step-by-step customized AI training by job function, project-based learning (PBL) using defect data from their own factories, and forums and seminars to spread AX culture.
Specific courses include 'Generative AI Work,' which automates the creation of work standards and quality documents; 'AI Vision Inspection,' which improves automated quality checks and defect detection; and 'Quality Risk Management,' which uses big data analysis to prevent process risks. In particular, suppliers will carry out AI modeling using real process data from their own factories and work on PBL assignments that directly produce quality improvement solutions, aiming to reduce defect rates and boost productivity at the same time.
After successfully establishing AI training centered on quality-related jobs this year, Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand the scope of AI training to suppliers' broader job functions, including production, R&D, purchasing, and management. The company said it aims to lead the creation of an AI win-win ecosystem across the future mobility industry.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "To lead the future mobility market, it is essential to internalize technologies on the ground that deliver quality perfection and productivity innovation." The official added, "We believe that the AI competitiveness of parts suppliers is Hyundai Motor Group's global competitiveness, and we will continue to support suppliers' successful AI transformation and mutual growth through the AI-Specialized Joint Training Center."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group held the Hyundai Motor Group AX Performance Presentation at its headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 12th and unveiled its companywide digital transformation and AI transformation process, along with future plans. Based on the data assets, operational experience, and AI capabilities it has accumulated, the group plans to expand innovation into the physical AI sector and use that know-how to actively support the spread of AI transformation across domestic industries and the AX efforts of small and midsize companies.
