[Financial News, Yeongwol = Reporter Kim Giseop] Two road routes in Yeongwol County, including National Route 31 and Local Route 88, have been included in the government’s 6th National and Local Road Construction Plan.
According to Yeongwol County on the 27th, the routes reflected in the plan are the Mungok-Yeondeok section of National Route 31 in Buk-myeon and the Jinbyeol-Naeri section of Local Route 88 in Gimsatgat-myeon. Over the past three years, the county has visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport several times with the road and transportation bureau of Gangwon State to explain the need and feasibility of the projects and request that the two routes be included in the plan.
The Mungok-Yeondeok project on National Route 31 covers a 7.4-km section from Yeondeok Intersection to Yeongwol Junction and will cost 63.1 billion won. The Jinbyeol-Naeri project on Local Route 88 spans 9.0 km from Waseokjae Tunnel to Naeri and will require 67.4 billion won. Combined, the two routes cover 16.4 km, with a total project cost of 130.5 billion won.
Once the two projects are completed, road safety and traffic conditions are expected to improve, while broader accessibility through expressway links will also increase. They are also expected to help boost local tourism and logistics.
Kim Haewon, head of Yeongwol County’s construction division, said, "After the Jecheon-Yeongwol Expressway broke ground and the Yeongwol-Samcheok Expressway passed the preliminary feasibility study, the addition of the national and local routes has given further momentum to transport network expansion." He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure the projects proceed without setbacks so that Yeongwol can emerge as a transportation hub in southern Gangwon and residents can travel more conveniently."
