Opposition Invites Park Geun-hye to Retreat; Ruling Party Calls It a "Bizarre Regression Into the Past"

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea on the 27th criticized the People Power Party for inviting former President Park Geun-hye to its retreat ahead of the regular session of the National Assembly, calling it a "bizarre regression into the past."
Han Byung-do, the party's floor leader, made the remark at a policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly that day. He said the People Power Party had officially invited former President Park Geun-hye to its lawmakers' retreat and was seeking advice on the direction the party should take.
Han said, "I cannot understand how they expect to move toward the future by taking as their compass someone who was removed from office by a unanimous decision of the Justices of the Constitutional Court of Korea and whose conviction was finalized by the Supreme Court of Korea." He added that it was "an irresponsible act that directly insults the Candlelight Revolution and the constitutional order."
Referring to the People Power Party's retreat slogan, "Building tomorrow on today," he also noted, "There is no tomorrow that can be opened by bringing back a former president who was judged by the courts for undermining the constitutional order."
He went on to say, "The public will not entrust the future of the Republic of Korea to a party that cannot break with the mistakes of the past and is only fixated on rallying the far-right conservative camp." He added, "The People Power Party should stop its dangerous reverse course and move forward for the lives of the people and the future of the Republic of Korea."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Korea will also hold a two-day lawmakers' workshop starting that day to discuss the direction of the first regular session of the National Assembly in the second half of the 22nd National Assembly. After the workshop ends on the 28th, Democratic Party lawmakers are scheduled to have lunch with President Lee Jae-myung and discuss key legislative and budget strategies for the regular session.
