According to KOSME on the 27th, the project was launched to help small businesses create safer working environments, as many struggle to build a sufficient industrial safety foundation due to the burden of safety management costs and labor shortages.
KOSME and KB Financial Group connect supplier companies with industrial safety technologies and products to demand companies that need on-site improvements. They provide tailored industrial safety solutions, including workplace improvements, safety equipment supplies, and safety training and consulting.
The first-phase project, which ran for three months from April, saw 50 supplier companies support 584 safety-related activities at 396 demand companies.
By support area, responses to fire and explosion risks accounted for the largest share at 62%. They were followed by traffic accident prevention at 12% and fall accident prevention at 6%.
By support method, engineering and administrative measures such as installing safety equipment and improving work procedures made up 75% of the total. They were followed by the distribution of safety gear at 23% and safety education at 2%.
KOSME estimated that the first-phase project saved 12.542 billion won in social costs by preventing safety accidents.
In the second phase, 17 additional supplier companies with new safety technologies and solutions will be selected. Details on eligibility and application procedures can be found on KOSME's official website.
Seok-jin Kang, chairman of KOSME, said, "We will closely connect companies with safety technologies and companies seeking to improve on-site risk factors so that we can support safer working environments and sustainable growth for SMEs."
