24-Story, 588-Room Lodging Facility to Be Built at Wangsimni Intersection as Tourism and Stay Hub

[Financial News] A 588-room tourist accommodation facility will be built near Wangsimni station in Seoul. An open public space connected to Wangsimni Cultural Park and parking space for tourist buses will also be created.
On the 26th, Seoul Metropolitan Government said that the 14th Urban and Architecture Joint Committee, held the previous day, conditionally approved a revised plan for the Wangsimni Metropolitan Center District Unit Plan, the detailed development plan for the Jeil Bank Special Planning Zone, and the review of whether infrastructure and other facilities are sufficient.
The site borders Wangsimni station and Wangsimni Intersection, where Subway Lines 2 and 5, the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, and the Suin–Bundang Line all pass through. It is a major transportation hub concentrated with commercial, business, and transit functions.
As the number of visitors to Seoul rises, demand for lodging is also increasing. However, Seongdong District has only five tourist accommodation facilities with a total of 205 rooms, leaving supply short. The city plans to expand tourist lodging and strengthen the area's core functions by leveraging Wangsimni station's accessibility and the surrounding commercial and business infrastructure.
The project, proposed by Mangrove residents, will be developed on a 1,495.87-square-meter site into a 24-story building with four basement levels and a total of 588 rooms. Guest rooms will be located from the third to the 23rd floor, while the remaining floors will be used for amenities and parking.
The plan also includes infrastructure improvements to enhance public rest areas and the pedestrian environment. At Wangsimni Cultural Park, near the station entrance, an open public space without level differences will be created to improve the continuity of green and resting areas.
The sidewalk along Wangsimni-ro will be widened by 3 meters, and building setback lines, wall setback lines, and a public pedestrian passage will be installed on Wangsimni-ro 20-gil. Dedicated parking and stopping spaces for tourist buses will also be added to separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic and improve the flow of surrounding roads.
Kim Chang-gyu, head of Seoul's Urban Space Bureau, said, "This decision will further strengthen Wangsimni's role as a metropolitan center," adding, "We expect it to revitalize core functions such as commerce, business, and culture around Wangsimni station."
