[Financial News] LG Electronics is joining forces with KEPCO to promote more efficient energy use.
LG Electronics announced on the 27th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KEPCO on the 26th at KEPCO Art Center in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, to promote a smart appliance cash-back pilot project. The signing ceremony was attended by No Beom-jun, head of LG Electronics' HS AI Home Solution Business Development team, Lee Jeong-ho, head of KEPCO's Customer Service Innovation Division, and Jeon Seung-su, head of Samsung Electronics' B.IoT Development Group.
Under the program, participating customers can receive a refund on their electricity bills based on the power used by home appliances during designated hours. The refund is 100 won per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up to a maximum of 300 won per hour. The amount is automatically deducted from electricity bills through KEPCO's energy cash-back service. Eligible products include four types of home appliances: washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, and Styler units. The WashTower and WashCombo, which are combined washer-dryer models, are also included.
The program was designed to help stabilize power supply by encouraging the use of home appliances during weekends and holidays in spring and fall, when electricity demand is relatively low, especially between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. It also aims to foster a culture of efficient power use by promoting appliance use during hours when the share of renewable energy generation, such as solar power, is rising.
Participation is simple. Customers can apply for the smart appliance cash-back service on KEPCO's website, then tap "Connect service" on the smart appliance cash-back page in the LG ThinQ app, the AI Home platform.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics is also expanding activities that allow customers to take part in energy saving in their daily lives, including the "ThinQ 26 Degrees Challenge." The campaign encourages users to set their air conditioner to 26 degrees Celsius, the government-recommended cooling temperature, so they can easily and effectively save energy in everyday life.
Ki-hyun Jung, vice president and head of the HS Platform Business Center at LG Electronics' HS Division, said, "Based on the AI Home platform LG ThinQ, we will work with customers to spread a culture of smart energy use and introduce a variety of services that can contribute to sustainable energy consumption."
