[Financial News] As manufacturing sites accelerate the shift to smart factories that think and control themselves through the application of information and communications technology, Hyundai Mobis unveiled a range of new manufacturing technologies designed to expand the use of smart factory solutions at its plants in Korea and overseas.
Hyundai Mobis said on the 27th that it held its manufacturing innovation technology exhibition, "M-Sphere 2026," at the Quantum Center near the Hyundai Motor Group Uiwang R&D Center for two days starting on the 26th, and that it is working to strengthen smart manufacturing competitiveness and energize the technology ecosystem.
At this year's exhibition, the company presented a range of R&D achievements centered on innovative cases applied to real production sites, including AI-based automation technologies jointly developed with partners.
Because the automotive parts manufacturing industry depends on close cooperation among automakers, parts suppliers and equipment makers, Hyundai Mobis said it plans to use the event to broaden technology exchange with partners, share smart manufacturing know-how and help improve competitiveness across the industrial ecosystem.
Now in its second year, M-Sphere serves as a platform where visitors can see Hyundai Mobis' current manufacturing technologies and future vision in one place. The company shares the event with customers and partners.
At the event, Hyundai Mobis unveiled more than 40 manufacturing technologies across three areas: advanced intelligent automation, AI digital twin and core technologies, developed together with various partners. These are cutting-edge manufacturing technologies already being applied at production sites.
In the intelligent automation section, a transport robot system using a 3D vision system drew attention.
The technology, which Hyundai Mobis has piloted at its Ulsan chassis module plant, allows robots to locate and collect the various parts needed to assemble automotive chassis modules on their own. Using cameras to recognize travel routes, the system transports heavy parts weighing up to 20 kilograms to the assembly line. It is designed to prevent safety accidents while improving parts supply accuracy and production efficiency.
In the digital twin area, a robot teaching solution based on Physical AI attracted attention. Hyundai Mobis demonstrated the technology at the exhibition by simulating an airbag production site. It creates a virtual environment identical to the real production line and teaches the movements of robotic arms and fingers, or grippers.
Jeong Chung-sik, Managing Director in charge of production development at Hyundai Mobis, said, "We will continue to actively apply innovative technologies based on AI and digital twins at production sites to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness," adding, "By sharing know-how with partners, we will contribute to building a smart manufacturing ecosystem in the mobility industry."
