[Financial News] A video has sparked controversy after showing a man in a busy district in Japan closely approaching passing women and brushing past their thighs and legs. Online reactions also warned travelers to be careful about sexual harassment during trips to Japan.
On the 26th, a video carrying the message that people should be careful about sexual harassment when traveling to Japan was shared on an online community and social networking service.
The informant, identified as A, who filmed the video, said he spotted a man behaving suspiciously at an arcade-style shopping street in Japan. He then followed the man at a distance and recorded the scene.
In the video released by A, a man wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt is seen walking through a shopping district crowded with shoppers.
As he moved through the crowd, the man deliberately pressed his body close to women to squeeze through narrow gaps. With his hand lowered, he repeatedly brushed past women’s thighs and legs.
The man in the video kept up similar behavior toward women regardless of whether they appeared to be Asian or Western. One woman seemed to feel uncomfortable and immediately turned around after he passed.
Online users continued to criticize the man’s behavior. Comments poured in, including, "This is why people think of that country when they hear the word pervert," "Why is his hand like that? It's so unpleasant and disgusting I don't want to go to Japan," and "This is why I avoid crowded places when I travel to Japan."
