[Financial News] Kang Jun Woo, a member of the Yuk Joong-wan Band, expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff and the public who helped his son, born as an extremely premature baby, return home healthy after more than four months of treatment.
On the 26th, Kang Jun Woo took to his social networking service (SNS) to say, "I would like to let you know that our son, Wooju, was discharged on August 25."
He said, "A baby born on April 16, 2026, at 25 weeks and weighing 690 grams was discharged in good health on August 25, 131 days after birth, weighing 4.16 kg." He added, "Because his oxygen saturation sometimes dropped during feeding, he was discharged with only an oxygen saturation monitor."
He continued, "First of all, I sincerely thank everyone who has been cheering us on," adding, "My wife and I received so much comfort, and we were moved to tears."
Kang Jun Woo said, "My wife was diagnosed with oligohydramnios at another hospital and was urgently transferred to Samsung Seoul Hospital. Before entering the high-risk maternity ward, the medical staff told her, 'Now that you're here, don't worry.'" He added, "She said those words were deeply comforting and reassuring. Hearing that from her, I also felt tremendous relief."
He also thanked the NICU medical staff at Samsung Seoul Hospital, saying, "I am grateful to the medical team who cared for and treated Wooju for about four months. I cannot even put into words how thankful I am." He added, "While visiting, my wife and I also received a great deal of treatment and comfort from the medical staff."
Kang Jun Woo also said, "I sincerely thank the public."
He explained, "At first, I had no particular thoughts when I was admitted to a large hospital. But after some time passed, I realistically began to worry about the medical bills. Fortunately, I learned that medical insurance covered the treatment costs, and that there is also a government policy to support those expenses." He then disclosed his son's medical bill details.
According to the disclosed bill, the total medical expenses over 131 days came to KRW 216,945,145. Of that amount, the National Health Insurance Service covered KRW 214,727,330, the out-of-pocket payment was KRW 920,040, and non-covered treatment costs totaled KRW 1,256,215. The total amount actually paid by the patient was KRW 2,217,815.
Kang Jun Woo said, "The total medical bill of KRW 216 million was an amount my wife and I could never have handled on our own." He added, "Thanks to the help of the public reading this post, we were able to pay that huge sum. I am truly grateful."
He said, "The first day our baby came home was an awkward day for both my wife and me, and for the baby too." He added, "After spending a day alone with just our family, I realized how amazing all parents in the world are. They are truly the best."
He went on to say, "Wooju grew up well thanks to the help of so many people. That is why we chose his name using the characters for 'help' and 'everywhere,' to mean that he received help from many people." He added, "I will live my whole life without forgetting this kindness. Thank you."
Meanwhile, Kang Jun Woo debuted in 2011 as a member of the band Jangmi Yeo-gwan. After the group disbanded in 2018, he formed the Yuk Joong-wan Band with Yook Joong-wan and has continued his career. He married a non-celebrity wife in 2016.
