Kim posted on his social media account that day and urged, "I hope you will approach this with an open mind, thinking about the future of Seoul, including young people and newlyweds."
He added, "Under no circumstances should we insist only on the 'Yongsan is impossible' stance, which says homes can never be built on the returned U.S. military site in Yongsan. I hope you will also join, with an open mind, in using parts of the already damaged site, such as the officers' quarters, and in the public discussion process for that."
He also noted, "Building homes on land returned from the U.S. military was unimaginable 20 years ago. But if the decision is meant to shape South Korea's next 100 years, we need to rethink questions that once seemed impossible and find new answers."
Kim also said, "At our next meeting, I hope we can move beyond our differences and cooperate for the important goals of housing stability for the public and increased housing supply in Seoul."
