'K-Mythos' Becomes a Two-Horse Race Between SK Telecom and NAVER Cloud... Selection Due in Early September

[Financial News] SK Telecom and a NAVER Cloud consortium will compete for the government-led project to develop a cybersecurity-focused artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model. The two companies each formed consortia by bringing together major domestic AI and security firms, universities, and public institutions.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said that, after inviting applications from teams to participate in the "Cybersecurity-Focused AI Foundation Model Development" project from July 22 to 26, two consortia led by SK Telecom and NAVER Cloud submitted proposals.
The SK Telecom consortium will pursue a project titled "Development of a Full-Spectrum Cybersecurity-Focused AI Foundation Model and Demonstration of Agentic Security Services Based on Korea's Cyber Threat Environment."
SK Telecom will serve as the lead organization. A total of 13 institutions will take part, including Upstage Co., Ltd., SK Shieldus, SECUI, AhnLab, Inc., IGLOO Corporation, RaonSecure, Smart M2M, AIM Intelligence, Genians Inc., PIOLINK, the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA), the Korea University Research and Business Foundation, and the Foundation of Soongsil University-Industry Cooperation.
The NAVER Cloud consortium put forward the project theme, "Development of an AI Foundation Model to Internalize National Cybersecurity Capabilities."
The consortium led by NAVER Cloud includes 32 organizations, among them LG CNS Co., Ltd. (LG CNS), LG AI Research, LG Uplus, Logpresso, MarkAny, SANDS LAB Inc., Sparrow, S2W, AI Spera, WINS Technet, ESTsecurity, Jiransecurity Co., Ltd., Tatum, Trillion Labs, Theori Korea, Seoul National University, Korea University (KU), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
After reviewing the eligibility of the submitted documents, MSIT plans to conduct presentation evaluations by outside experts. The results will be announced in early September.
