Psy Summarily Indicted on Charges of Remote Prescription and Proxy Pickup of Psychotropic Drugs

[Financial News] Singer Psy, 49, whose birth name is Park Jae-sang, has been summarily indicted on charges of receiving prescriptions for psychotropic drugs remotely and having them picked up by a manager on his behalf.
According to legal sources on the 26th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office summarily indicted Psy and a professor at a university hospital in Seoul on the 22nd of last month on charges of violating the Medical Service Act.
A summary indictment is a procedure in which prosecutors ask a court to impose a fine or other penalty based only on written review, without a formal trial. It has not yet been confirmed whether the court has issued a summary order against Psy. The remaining four people, including medical staff and a manager, who were also referred to prosecutors were not prosecuted.
Psy is accused of receiving prescriptions for psychotropic drugs without an in-person examination at the university hospital where A worked for several years starting in 2022, and of having the medication picked up by a third party, including his manager.
The drugs Psy was prescribed were reportedly Xanax and Stilnox, which are used to treat anxiety disorders and sleep disorders.
Under the current Medical Service Act, doctors are required to issue prescriptions after directly examining patients. In addition, unless the patient has been examined in person, no one may collect a prescription on their behalf except in limited cases set out by law, such as family members.
Last year, Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul launched an investigation into the case and sent Psy, A, three medical staff members, and a manager, among a total of six people, to prosecutors.
Among them, the three medical staff members were reportedly accused of prescribing psychotropic drugs to Psy at A's request.
