POSCO TJ Park Foundation Selects 40 Local Talents from Pohang and Gwangyang, Offers Support for Up to Seven Semesters

[Financial News] The POSCO TJ Park Foundation is stepping up efforts to nurture future talent, with a focus on the Pohang and Gwangyang regions. This year, it has newly selected 40 university students as scholarship recipients and will provide living-expense scholarships for up to seven semesters until graduation. Since the scholarship program was introduced in 2006, the foundation has supported more than 680 university students over the past 21 years.
The POSCO TJ Park Foundation said on the 26th that it held the 2026 POSCO Vision Scholarship award ceremony at its employee retreat facility in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon State.
The POSCO Vision Scholarship was created to help university students from Pohang and Gwangyang who have strong character and academic ability continue their studies with stability. This year, 40 students from 29 universities nationwide were selected. The group includes students from major universities such as Seoul National University, POSTECH, KAIST, and Korea University.
Each selected student will receive a living-expense scholarship of 2.5 million won per semester for up to seven semesters, or until graduation. The maximum amount one student can receive is 17.5 million won.
Until now, the foundation had mainly selected students from Pohang and Gwangyang, but starting this year, it has expanded eligibility to include freshmen at universities located in Pohang and Gwangyang.
To discover outstanding talent, the foundation works each year with major universities across the country, as well as city governments, high schools, and scholarship platforms in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas, to promote recruitment for the program.
The long-term results of its support are also notable. Since introducing the POSCO Vision Scholarship program in 2006, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation has provided 8.4 billion won in scholarships to a total of 682 university students over the past 21 years.
Beyond simply awarding scholarships, the foundation also runs programs designed to strengthen recipients' capabilities. Through overseas volunteer activities and mentoring programs, it helps students build networks and map out their career paths in more concrete ways.
This year's scholarship award ceremony was also organized as a one-night, two-day event. In particular, overseas scholarship recipients enrolled in master's and doctoral programs at Korean universities through the foundation's POSCO Asia Fellowship (PAF) program also took part, sharing culture and experiences with the POSCO Vision Scholarship recipients.
A foundation official said, "The foundation will actively support scholarship recipients so they can focus on their studies and also strengthen their capabilities through diverse experiences and exchanges," adding, "We hope they will look out at a wider world and grow into talent that will lead the future."
Meanwhile, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation plans to continue discovering outstanding talent in connection with local communities, while further expanding exchanges between domestic and overseas scholarship recipients and customized capability-building programs.
