[Financial News] Ewha Womans University said on the 26th that it had received a 100 million won scholarship donation from alumna Kang Jeong-hye, who graduated from the Department of Korean Language and Literature.
The donation was made to mark the department’s upcoming 80th anniversary in 2027 and to support students facing financial hardship. The fund will be named the "21st Kang Jeong-hye Scholarship for the 80th Anniversary of the Department of Korean Language and Literature" and will be awarded to students in need. The university also plans to begin fundraising in earnest next year for the department’s 80th anniversary.
Kang said, "I still vividly remember the sight of Ewha when I first saw it at my older sister’s entrance ceremony, after attending school in a small city as a child." She added, "Graduating from Ewha has been a lifelong source of pride, and I hope this scholarship will help younger students overcome difficult circumstances and continue their studies."
Ewha Womans University President Hyang-sook Lee responded, "We are deeply grateful for your generous donation ahead of next year’s 80th anniversary of the department." She added, "We will do our best to guide students so that your valuable intention reaches them and helps them grow into outstanding talents."
Meanwhile, the donation ceremony held on the 19th was attended by Kang, along with alumni association executives including Department of Korean Language and Literature alumni association president Ji Seon-young, as well as university officials such as President Hyang-sook Lee and Professor Seung-u Kim, head of the department.
