Cheong Wa Dae to Reconsider Approval of Ihn Yo-han as Korean Red Cross President; Kim Min-seok's Proposal Delivered

[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 26th that it will review a request from Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok asking President Lee Jae Myung to reconsider the approval of former People Power Party lawmaker Ihn Yo-han as president of the Korean Red Cross.
Cheong Wa Dae said in response to Kim's proposal that "Kim Min-seok's proposal has been delivered to Cheong Wa Dae, and we plan to review it."
Earlier, Park Seong-jun, the DPK's chief spokesperson, told reporters after an on-site Supreme Council meeting in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, that Kim had separately conveyed his view after a dinner with the president and the party's new leadership at Cheong Wa Dae the previous day, asking that the approval of Ihn as Korean Red Cross president be reconsidered.
Park explained, "Amid various opinions surrounding the appointment of the Red Cross president, we conveyed this message after gathering views inside and outside the party."
Ihn was elected as the next president by the Korean Red Cross Central Committee on June 22. The National Assembly's ethics committee for public officials later decided on the 24th that he was eligible for employment at the Korean Red Cross. He can take office as president once the presidential approval process is completed.
However, critics inside and outside the DPK have argued that Ihn is not suitable for the post, citing his absence from the December 2024 impeachment vote on former President Yoon while he was a People Power Party lawmaker.
As Kim directly relayed the ruling party's views to the president, the final decision on Ihn's approval as Korean Red Cross president is expected to depend on Cheong Wa Dae's review.
