Hanil Cement secures technical certification for concrete strength even below freezing

According to Hanil Cement on the 26th, the newly developed cold-weather concrete speeds up the initial reaction rate, allowing it to achieve strength that meets safety standards even when cured with only plastic sheets or insulating blankets, without separate heating facilities.
Concrete hardens through a chemical reaction between water and cement, but the reaction slows significantly as temperatures fall. Below freezing, moisture inside the concrete can freeze, reducing its early strength.
For that reason, construction sites have mainly used accelerated curing methods such as installing tents and running hot-air blowers to prevent freezing. However, these methods have brought additional costs, including heating expenses, as well as risks of fire and suffocation accidents.
An official from Hanil Cement's research institute said, "We plan to continue developing high-performance products and technologies that reflect the needs of construction sites."
