AI Detects Fire Signs as KFPA Verifies Disaster Detection Technology

[Financial News] The Korea Fire Protection Association (KFPA) is moving to verify on-site artificial intelligence (AI)-based fire and disaster detection technology and link it with the insurance industry.
KFPA said on the 26th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Focus AI at its headquarters on the 25th to certify and institutionalize an integrated disaster monitoring AI solution.
The agreement was designed to combine Focus AI's video-based AI fire and disaster detection technology with the certification and performance evaluation capabilities of the Fire Insurers Laboratories of Korea (FILK), a KFPA-affiliated institute, as well as its expertise in safety inspections and insurance risk management. The two sides plan to expand cooperation beyond technology verification to on-site demonstrations, insurance linkage, and follow-up commercialization.
Focus AI's integrated disaster monitoring AI solution is a system that uses AI-powered CCTV to detect early signs of fire, such as flames and smoke, as well as hazardous conditions at industrial sites in real time. Its key feature is that AI analyzes video data to identify abnormal signs early, going beyond simple video monitoring.
The platform could later be expanded to manage not only fire risks but also facility safety and a wide range of disaster threats by detecting changes in facility conditions, abnormal behavior, and linking with multi-environment sensors.
The two sides will promote AI solution certification and performance evaluation by FILK, proof-of-concept testing at apartment underground parking lots, logistics centers and industrial facilities, operation of an integrated testbed and data collection, AI performance improvement and verification of risk-reduction effects using demonstration data, and advanced insurance risk assessment and R&D linkage.
KFPA plans to verify the solution's detection performance, operational stability and applicability across a range of sites, while analyzing fire and industrial safety data collected during the demonstration process. Focus AI, for its part, intends to use the results to advance the technology and expand its business into the insurance sector and industrial sites.
In particular, the two sides will work together to refine insurance risk assessment systems based on the demonstration data and review the potential for linking the effort with the fire insurance system. They also plan to broaden cooperation through follow-up research support projects and large-scale demonstration initiatives.
A KFPA official said, "We have laid the groundwork for cooperation that goes beyond certification and on-site verification of AI safety technology to include data analysis, insurance linkage and follow-up R&D." The official added, "We will help build a preventive, data-driven safety management system and support the spread of proven technologies to industrial sites and the insurance system."
