Genesis 'GV90' to Feature Samsung Display OLED, Strengthening Push Into Automotive Market

[Financial News] Samsung Display is strengthening its push into the premium automotive display market by supplying two types of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels for Genesis' ultra-large flagship electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), the 'GV90'. 
Samsung Display said on the 26th that it will supply 24.6-inch and 13.2-inch OLED panels for Genesis' recently unveiled ultra-large flagship electric SUV, the 'GV90'. The products have been in full-scale shipment since this month. 
The cinematic display at the center of the vehicle is a variable display equipped with a 24.6-inch OLED panel, and its screen size changes depending on the situation. While driving, users can check driving information, navigation, and media content on the 23.6-inch wide screen. When the vehicle is parked, pressing the expansion button on the center fascia raises the display by 90 mm, allowing users to enjoy a 24.6-inch large screen that is about 1.7 times wider than the one used while driving. 
OLED, which emits its own light, is generally about 30% thinner and 70% lighter than LCD, which requires a separate backlight. These structural advantages make it well suited for the GV90's pop-up display, which moves up and down. That is because the driving mechanism can be designed more efficiently and design flexibility can be increased even within the limited space of a vehicle interior. 
The product features an ultra-wide 24:9 aspect ratio and 3,840 x 1,440 high resolution, making it ideal for video content such as films. It also delivers rich and vivid colors thanks to color reproduction that fully covers DCI-P3, a color gamut widely used in the digital film industry. In addition, it uses a tandem structure that stacks two organic emitting layers, securing both high brightness and a long lifespan. This allows it to provide a clear and stable display even in bright outdoor environments.
A 13.2-inch OLED display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution has been installed on the back of the left and right headrests in the front seats of the GV90, providing rear passengers with an independent, high-definition content viewing environment. With the same color reproduction as the center cinematic display, it offers sharp and vivid OLED picture quality for movies and other content, and can also be used for work such as video conferences. 
Lee Ju-hyung, head of Samsung Display's small and medium-sized panel business division and vice president, said, "The Samsung OLED applied to the 'GV90' is a symbolic example of how premium displays and luxury mobility come together to create a new experience," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to create new value in luxury mobility together, based on the strengths of both companies."
