Jang Dong-hyuk Declares 'Party Members' Sovereignty 2.0' ... "Expand Member Participation Through Direct Elections for District Party Chairs, Unite All Conservatives"

[Financial News] People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk said on the 26th, "We will further expand party members' sovereignty by allowing members to directly take part in the selection of city and provincial party chairpersons and district party chairpersons."
At a press briefing marking his first anniversary in office at the party's main headquarters in Yeouido, Jang said, "I will fill the party with people who can truly fight."
Jang said, "Over the past year, I have focused above all on strengthening the sovereignty of party members." He added, "A party without members cannot exist, and I believe the strength of the members is the strength of the party." He pledged a fresh start for the remaining year of his term.
He also stressed that the evaluation system for elected officials would be overhauled to match the conservative values of the times. He said a new assessment system would be built for lawmakers, heads of metropolitan local governments, heads of basic local governments, and local council members.
Jang also outlined a plan to propel the party forward through the "People Power Party 2.0, Four Major Innovation Projects." He said the party would strengthen members' sense of ownership through measures such as a mobile party membership card and a more detailed membership system. He also pledged to upgrade the party's organizational management system by improving audit evaluation indicators and systematizing member education.
He added that the party would revise its constitution and rules to drive organizational reform and launch the Party Members' Sovereignty 2.0 Committee. He also said he would establish a "People's Livelihood Vitality PLA Committee" directly under the party leader to cover issues ranging from the economy, diplomacy and security to youth and the future. PLA stands for Patrol, Legislation and Aftercare.
In addition, he said the party would establish a Committee for Establishing Conservative Identity, revise its platform and basic policies, regularize expanded meetings of party officials, operate standing committees centered on field work, and set up an online and offline archive chronicling the history of conservatism.
Jang emphasized, "If the past year was a time to revive a broken party and bring together scattered conservatives, from now on it will be a time to build the bridgehead for victory in earnest." He added, "Based on the united will of party members, I will move toward the 'sea of public sentiment.' With the party as a centrist force, I will take it one step further as a party for the people's livelihood."
