Jang Dong-hyuk marks first year in office, calls for conservative unity to win general election and retake power

[Financial News] Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, said on the 26th, marking one year since he took office, that the party had spent the past year building a "party centered on members" and would now spend the remaining year moving toward the "sea of public sentiment." He said he would push ahead with the "People Power Party 2.0, four major innovation projects" and use them as a springboard for victories in the 2028 general election and the 2030 presidential election. He effectively signaled that he intends to serve out his term, brushing aside calls from inside and outside the party to clarify his future.
Jang held a press conference at the party's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, to mark the first anniversary of his election as party leader. "With one year left in my term, I will make a fresh start," he said. "I will drive reform from within and bring about complete change."
Jang said, "If the past year was a time to revive a broken party and bring together a scattered conservative bloc, from now on it will be a time to build the foundation for victory in earnest." He added, "Based on the united will of party members, I will move toward the 'sea of public sentiment.' On the basis of a party centered on members, I will take it one step further and turn it into a party focused on people's livelihoods."
He again stressed his goal of turning the People Power Party into a "party centered on members." To that end, he announced the launch of the "People Power Party 2.0, four major innovation projects." They include Party Member Sovereignty 2.0, a people's livelihood party, Communication Party 2.0, and Values Party 2.0.
Jang promised, "I will further expand party member sovereignty by allowing members to directly take part in electing provincial and city party chairpersons and district committee chairs." He also said, "I will establish a 'People's Livelihood Vitality PLA Committee' directly under the party leader to build a systematic management system for livelihood policies so that we can lead issues in each sector." He added that after solidifying the party's conservative identity, he would "devote even greater effort to solidarity with all conservative forces."
He also emphasized that the party would stand up to the Lee Jae-myung administration as the opposition. Jang said, "President Lee Jae-myung has called his government a 'people's sovereignty government,' but in reality it is a 'sovereignty-robbing regime' more ruthless than any previous administration." He added, "We will block the real estate tax bomb through legislative battles in the National Assembly and devote our efforts to scrapping all kinds of regulations, including loan restrictions."
He went on to say, "The president is destroying the judicial order and intimidating the judiciary in order to have his own trial canceled. He has even gone so far as to dream of a constitutional amendment for a second term." He added, "We will stop it."
He also said, "There is not a single part of our economy that is normal, whether it is real estate, stocks, prices or interest rates. Diplomacy, security and public safety are all on the brink, and yet this regime still has nearly four years left. The Lee Jae-myung administration must change, or we must change the Lee Jae-myung administration. If not, there is no other choice. The People Power Party will find an alternative."
