16, Including Union Members in Sejong Hotel Lobby Sit-In Demanding Reinstatement, Sent to Prosecutors

[Financial News] Union officials and others who staged a lobby sit-in demanding the reinstatement of dismissed Sejong Hotel workers have been handed over to prosecutors in large numbers.
According to police on the 26th, the Seoul Namdaemun Police Station sent 16 people who took part in the Sejong Hotel lobby sit-in to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the 20th on charges of refusing to leave jointly and obstructing business.
They are accused of illegally occupying the lobby of Sejong Hotel in Jung District, Seoul, and disrupting hotel operations from Jan. 14, when Go Jin-soo ended a 336-day high-altitude protest and came down, until Feb. 2.
Among the 17 people initially under investigation, the branch head was reportedly excluded from this round of referrals because he had already been indicted and was on trial over other cases, including a protest in front of the SMOE demanding the reinstatement of dismissed teachers.
Earlier, Sejong Hotel cut 15 employees, including 12 union members, in 2021 after abolishing its food and beverage division as its business worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The union said the hotel refused to talk even after business performance recovered, and continued the sit-in demanding the reinstatement of all dismissed workers.
However, as the protest dragged on and disrupted business, merchants operating inside the hotel filed a complaint against the union in January. Police then went to the scene on Feb. 2 and arrested 12 sit-in participants on the spot.
