[Financial News] FOCUS AI is expanding the business scope of its artificial intelligence (AI) video technology from fire detection into the insurance risk management market. The company aims to build a model that does more than identify warning signs at the scene; it will also accumulate real-world disaster data and use it for insurance risk assessment.
According to FOCUS AI on the 26th, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Fire Insurance Association to certify and institutionalize its integrated disaster monitoring solution. At the heart of the partnership is the on-site validation of AI video technology and its connection to the insurance industry. The two sides plan to pursue FILK certification and a Proof of Concept (PoC) for FOCUS AI's solution, while gathering data on how much it can reduce actual fire and disaster risks.
FOCUS AI's integrated disaster monitoring solution uses AI-powered CCTV systems to analyze not only flames and smoke, but also changes in facility conditions and unusual on-site behavior in real time. By linking the system with multi-environment sensors, including temperature and gas sensors, it expands conventional monitoring CCTV into a preemptive risk detection system.
The first demonstrations will be carried out at apartment parking lots, logistics centers and disaster-vulnerable facilities. The company also plans to secure data on land, sea and vessel sectors by using test beds connected to the FILK headquarters and regional research institutes.
Particularly noteworthy is that the data accumulated during the demonstrations will be used to examine how fire-risk reduction effects could be linked to insurance rate systems. If the AI solution can prove through data that it lowers risk, its use could later expand into insurers' risk assessments and disaster-prevention consulting.
Looking ahead, the two sides will also push for technology upgrades through public-private joint technology commercialization R&D, as well as large-scale demonstration projects at the local government and industrial complex level. Their plan is to broaden the application area from fire to facility safety, industrial safety and everyday safety.
Industry observers say the competitiveness of AI video technology is now being judged not just by detection accuracy, but by whether it can prove actual risk reduction with data and connect to financial sectors such as insurance. If FOCUS AI secures commercialization references by using the certification and demonstration infrastructure of the Korea Fire Insurance Association, it could also help the company enter the public and industrial safety markets.
Koo Hyung-mo, CEO of FOCUS AI, said, "The strength of AI video technology lies in its scalability, which allows it to read various risks on its own beyond a single danger such as fire." He added, "Through our cooperation with the Korea Fire Insurance Association, we will expand its applications into new markets such as industrial safety and insurance."
