Hanwha Corporation E&C Division Joins State Project to Optimize Building Energy with AI

[Financial News] Hanwha Corporation E&C Division is launching development of building energy management technology using artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin.
According to Hanwha Corporation E&C Division on the 26th, the company will take part in the state project, "Development and Demonstration of a BIM-Based Digital Twin Building Energy Management Simulator," led by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.
The project involves 11 industry, academia, and research institutions, including Hanwha Corporation E&C Division, E8, Seoul National University, and Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT). The total research and development budget is about 15.3 billion won.
At the core of the project is digital twin technology that links real building operation data with BIM, which digitally recreates building information in 3D. In a virtual space that mirrors an actual building, AI will predict hourly energy consumption and identify anomalies in advance to improve operational efficiency.
Hanwha Corporation E&C Division will be responsible for verifying building operation and maintenance technologies using digital twin. The company plans to develop the technology with goals of achieving more than 95% accuracy in hourly energy consumption forecasts and reducing peak power use by at least 20%.
Going forward, the project will also lay the groundwork for "autonomous building operation technology," in which AI analyzes equipment conditions and energy-use patterns to optimize energy efficiency on its own. The developed technology will first be applied to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office, KINTEX, and Seoul National University for performance verification before being expanded to more sites.
Kim Min-seok, head of the Architecture Business Division at Hanwha Corporation E&C Division, said, "This project represents a forward-looking digital transformation in the construction sector, extending BIM into the operational stage." He added, "We will continue to advance our capabilities in autonomous building operation technology based on AI and digital twin."
Meanwhile, Hanwha Corporation E&C Division is also participating this year in a 43.8 billion won state project to improve energy efficiency at AI data centers. Including this project, the company’s total energy-efficiency-related projects amount to 59.1 billion won.
