Daewoong Pharmaceutical to Support Blood Sugar Management for 1,000 Residents in Prediabetes

[Financial News] Daewoong Pharmaceutical will work with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to support blood sugar management for residents in the prediabetes stage.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical said on the 26th that it had been selected as a partner for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's blood sugar management support project, Blood Sugar Catch 9988, and will provide Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) and lifestyle management services to Seoul residents who need blood sugar management.
Blood Sugar Catch 9988 is a program for 1,000 Seoul residents who are identified as being in the prediabetes stage through metabolic syndrome tests at public health centers. It is open to residents with fasting blood sugar levels of 100 to 125 mg/dL. After being tested at a district public health center and linking the results to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public health management platform, Wrist Doctor 9988, they can participate.
Participants will wear a CGM to check changing blood sugar levels and trends in daily life and to see how lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise affect blood sugar.
Through its blood sugar-based metabolic health management platform Wellda, Daewoong Pharmaceutical will help users easily understand blood sugar data and apply it to lifestyle management. It will also provide step-by-step guides and content that can help participants review their eating and activity patterns.
Applications will be accepted through the Wrist Doctor 9988 app starting Sept. 9. Participants will be able to use the CGM-linked blood sugar management app service at a price more than 45% lower than the regular rate. A kit containing the device and instructions for using Wellda will be sent on Sept. 29, and sensor wear and program use will begin in stages from early October.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will work with public health centers in all 25 districts to provide program guidance and support participants, while Daewoong Pharmaceutical plans to offer training for public health center staff, device usage materials, and consultation guides.
Park Hyung-chul, head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical's ETC Marketing Division, said, "The value of continuous glucose data does not end with showing numbers. It grows when residents understand their own lifestyle habits and turn that understanding into real action." He added, "We will work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the 25 public health centers to ensure this project makes a meaningful contribution to improving public health."
Meanwhile, according to data from the Korean Diabetes Association (KDA), as of 2021 to 2022, there were about 5.33 million adults aged 30 and older in Korea with diabetes and about 14.1 million in the prediabetes stage. Combined, the two groups total about 19.43 million people, or 56.6% of adults aged 30 and older. Because diabetes can lead to complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, chronic kidney disease, and retinopathy, it is important to check blood sugar status and manage lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise starting from the prediabetes stage.
