[Financial News] Former President Park Geun-hye will attend the People Power Party lawmakers' retreat on the 27th. It is highly unusual for a former president to appear at a party retreat. Her appearance is drawing attention because it comes at a time when Jang Dong-hyuk's leadership is being shaken by issues such as disciplinary politics and the direct election of party committee chairs. Park's message is also expected to attract close scrutiny.
The People Power Party floor leader's office said in a press notice on the 26th that Park is scheduled to attend the '2026 People Power Party National Assembly Members' Retreat' at Sono Calm in Gyeonggi Province on the 27th.
Park's attendance at the retreat came at the request of floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig. Jeong visited Park's private residence in Dalseong County, Daegu, on the 19th. During the meeting, he invited Park to the retreat and told her, "I hope you can share some good thoughts on where the party should go." Park reportedly replied, "I will consider it."
The retreat is a place for the party to set its strategy and strengthen unity before the regular session of the National Assembly opens in September. It is attended by all lawmakers from the party. As criticism of Jang continues even among party lawmakers, Park is expected to step in personally and call for unity.
Analysts also say Park's successive public appearances following the June 3 local elections are not unrelated to the departure of traditional conservative supporters. Conservative voters, especially in Daegu–Gyeongbuk (TK), have continued to express disappointment with the party, and Park is seen as trying to rally the base.
