[Financial News Jeonnam-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong] About 550,000 people visited 48 beaches in the Jeonnam-Gwangju area this year.
Although the operating period was six days shorter than last year, total visitors rose 3.2%, and average daily visitors increased 16.9%. No fatalities were reported.
According to Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City on the 26th, 48 beaches in 12 cities and counties were operated for 45 days through the 23rd, and 550,097 people used them. There were no fatal accidents.
Although the operating period was six days shorter than last year, the number of visitors increased by 16,865, or 3.2%, from 533,232 last year. Average daily visitors also rose 16.9% to 12,224.
By region, Yeosu had the most visitors at 228,938, followed by Wando County with 160,847, Sinan County with 39,048, and Goheung County with 38,966.
By beach, Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach in Wando County ranked first with 149,130 visitors. It was followed by Ungcheon Beach in Yeosu with 75,347, Mosageum Beach with 68,425, and Manseongri Beach with 59,258.
In particular, no fatal accidents occurred during the beach operating period.
Earlier, the integrated metropolitan city inspected facilities and safety management systems with cities and counties before the opening to prevent summer accidents. It also deployed safety personnel and rescue equipment on site, while maintaining coordination with related agencies such as firefighting, the Korea Coast Guard (KCG), and the National Police Agency to respond to weather conditions and hazards such as jellyfish.
Park Tae-geon, head of the Island and Marine Policy Division of Gwangju Metropolitan City, said, "Even though the operating period was shorter than last year, more visitors came to the Jeonnam-Gwangju beaches this year." He added, "I would like to thank the safety personnel, on-site workers, and related agencies who worked hard to ensure the beaches could operate without any fatalities."
