Minister Kim Yun-duk of Land, Infrastructure and Transport: "7.3 Million Homes Can Be Supplied Excluding Yongsan... Tancheon Water Reclamation Center Under Review"

[Financial News] The government is expected to exclude the Yongsan Park area from the candidate sites for 73,000 new homes it plans to announce by the end of the year.
After his third meeting with Oh at Conference House Dalgaebi in central Seoul on the 20th, Kim Yun-duk told reporters that "Yongsan was not included in the 73,000 homes from the beginning" and reiterated his view that public discussion, such as a forum to hear citizens' opinions, is needed.
Asked whether the 73,000-home target referred only to supply in Gyeonggi Province, he replied, "We need to look at the data."
He added, "The first step is to go through a public discussion process. The second is to revise the Yongsan Park Special Act based on that outcome. The third is that cooperation from Seoul Metropolitan Government or local governments would be necessary."
Earlier, in its Aug. 13 housing supply measures, MOLIT said it would secure new public housing districts in the Seoul metropolitan area totaling more than 100,000 homes plus alpha. It also said it would announce additional candidate sites for the remaining 73,000 homes by the end of the year, excluding 27,000 homes in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and Namyangju and Gwangju in Gyeonggi Province.
On the possibility of using the Tancheon Water Reclamation Center site in Irwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, which Oh had proposed as an alternative to Yongsan Park, Kim said it would be "actively reviewed."
Regarding a proposal to transfer authority over redevelopment projects with fewer than 500 households from Seoul Metropolitan Government to district offices, he said, "We did not discuss it in detail." He added, "Since Seoul district heads have made a collective request, MOLIT will participate in the discussion at the National Assembly and push it forward through a ruling party-government-presidential office meeting of the Democratic Party of Korea."
Kim said the overall tone of the meeting was that "we have had plenty of conversation, following our previous meeting," but added that "specific agreements are still lacking."
