According to a KBS report on the 25th, after the first missing-person report was filed by Jang's boyfriend in May, her family filed second and third reports on July 17 and 19.
The case had already been closed after Constable Boo's lie, and multiple re-reports under those circumstances were said to be unusual.
In particular, the criminal investigation team at Jeju Western Police Station reported to the chief on the 10th that it would form a dedicated search team for Jang. That was still three weeks after the third missing-person report had been filed.
The investigation team claimed it had searched Hallim Port on its own for three weeks and said the report was delayed because the chief was on vacation.
After learning of the situation belatedly, the chief of Jeju Western Police Station immediately reported it to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency chief, and Constable Boo was suspended from duty that day.
Only then was a dedicated search team for Jang formed, and three of the four officers assigned to missing-person cases within the investigation team were excluded.
The National Police Agency placed all four current and former members of the command line, including the chief of Jeju Western Police Station and the head of the criminal division, on standby, citing responsibility for directing the case.
