【Financial News, Ulsan Metropolitan City = Choi Soo-sang reporter】 Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) has drawn up a plan to improve working conditions and pay for non-regular workers and will begin full-scale implementation.
According to Ulsan Port Authority on the 25th, the plan aims to ease job insecurity and narrow wage gaps among non-regular workers in the public sector. Its key measures include paying fair compensation to workers with less than one year of service, ensuring appropriate wages for non-regular workers, in principle banning ultra-short-term and one-year-or-less labor contracts, counting workers hired on a public holiday from their first day of employment, and strengthening workplace inspections and communication.
Specifically, the authority will pay fair compensation to employees who leave before completing one year of service to better reward short-term work, and it will raise the wage floor to 118% of the minimum wage. Ultra-short-term labor contracts will be banned in principle, while the requirements for prior review and approval will be tightened when such contracts are unavoidable. Workers hired on a public holiday will also be counted in the employment period to block unfair practices.
Byeon Jae-young, president of Ulsan Port Authority, said, "We will take the lead in minimizing short-term and unstable employment and creating a workplace where the value of labor is respected."
