Jeju police officer arrested over false closure of Jang Mi-ran missing-person case

[Financial News] A current police officer in Jeju, accused of falsely closing the missing-person report for a woman in her 30s named Jang Mi-ran, has been arrested.
On the 25th, the Jeju District Court held a pre-arrest hearing for the police sergeant from the Jeju Western Police Station, who is accused of dereliction of duty, falsifying and using false public electronic records, and obstructing official duties by deceit, and issued an arrest warrant.
The court said the warrant was granted because there was a risk of evidence destruction and flight.
The sergeant had previously been taken into emergency custody, but was released the day before after the court accepted a request to review the legality of the arrest. He was re-arrested just one day later.
He is accused of falsely telling the reporter that he had made contact with Jang, who was reported missing in May, then closing the case on his own and deleting Jang's records from the missing-person profiling system.
He is also accused of falsely closing in a similar manner the missing-person case of a man in his 60s, identified as B, which was filed on the 2nd of last month.
Police found B dead at a location in Jeju on the 22nd. The previous morning, they recovered a body believed to be Jang's in the Hallim-eup, Jeju-si area.
The National Forensic Service conducted an autopsy that day and confirmed that the body was Jang's.
