[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong] The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education received 278 entries for its official CI contest, which was held nationwide to find a new symbol for the office. Interest was also high in the open recruitment of review and advisory committee members, with 79 applicants taking part.
The office plans to begin full-scale judging in September and select the final design through a public vote in November.
According to the office on the 25th, the official CI contest ran for two months from June to August and drew 278 submissions. Designers, citizens, and young people from across the country, including Busan and Seoul as well as Jeonnam-Gwangju, took part. The entries included a range of ideas symbolizing the region's historical and cultural identity, the vision for future education, and the new beginning of the integrated special city office of education.
To realize the contest's goal of creating "our CI together with citizens" and to establish a fair and professional review system, 79 people also applied for the open recruitment of the review and advisory committee. Experts in education, design, humanities and philosophy, urban planning, and public relations and marketing joined teachers, nominees recommended by civic groups, and ordinary citizens, helping shape the symbol of the new education office together.
The office plans to complete the appointment of judges and advisers and begin the review process in September. First, it will select 17 award candidates through the initial screening. It will then conduct detailed advisory reviews of the top three entries through October, along with design improvements and refinement. In the final stage in November, it will hold online and offline preference voting for residents of the integrated special city to choose the winning entry.
Kang Seong-geun, Public Relations Officer at the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education, said, "This CI creation process is meaningful because it is not just about making a new visual symbol, but about sharing the educational values and future vision pursued by the integrated education office with citizens." He added, "We are grateful that so many special city residents and members of the public have shown interest and taken part."
The office also said, "Through fair and transparent judging, sufficient expert advice, and the collection of citizen opinions, we will make sure the new face of the education office becomes a familiar and proud symbol for the entire educational community."
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education plans to disclose the CI selection process and major initiatives transparently to the public. It will also establish systematic design management and usage plans so that the final CI can be consistently applied to the office's various policies, promotional materials, and educational sites. In addition, it plans to share the meaning behind the new CI and the production process with the educational community, while broadening understanding of the integrated special city office's identity and building greater consensus among its members.
