KORAIL Discusses the Future of the Rail Industry Ahead of High-Speed Rail Integration

[Financial News] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has created a forum to discuss innovation in the rail industry and its future vision ahead of the high-speed rail integration in September.
According to KORAIL on the 25th, the company held the 'Future Rail Forum' jointly with the Korean Association for Public Administration at its Daejeon headquarters the previous day. The forum was organized to examine the public benefits of the high-speed rail integration and to identify the future direction of the rail industry in response to the shift toward artificial intelligence (AI) and changing mobility environments.
At the forum, participants explored ways to improve service innovation and strengthen the rail industry's competitiveness at the same time, using the high-speed rail integration as an opportunity.
More than 10 experts from industry, academia, and research discussed the theme, 'Innovation and the Future of Korea's Public Rail Enterprises.' In the first session, Hong Young-ho, head of KORAIL's integration strategy office, presented on high-speed rail integration and public enterprise innovation, while Kim Kyung-taek, a research fellow at The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), spoke on the integration of rail subsidiaries and public enterprise innovation.
In the second session, Sungil Yoon, a professor at Kangwon National University (KNU), proposed key policy directions for rail policy to support balanced regional development, and Jeong Won-hee, a professor at Konyang University, outlined the future direction of the rail industry amid changes driven by AI and mobility.
The following discussion covered the innovation and sustainability of integrated rail services, ways to strengthen the rail industry's competitiveness amid changes in the AI and mobility ecosystem, and policy directions for rail development to promote balanced regional growth.
KORAIL President Kim Tae-seung said, "We will improve transportation convenience that people can feel in their daily lives, and restore the public role of rail so that everyone can travel conveniently and safely. In doing so, we will realize 'a greater happiness together through one united railway.'"
