UNIST Joins Hands with Samsung and SK hynix to Train Semiconductor Talent in Ulsan

【Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Soo-sang】Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) has built a state-of-the-art intelligent classroom, Nexus Hall, to train talent in advanced industries such as semiconductors in Ulsan.
According to UNIST and Ulsan Metropolitan City on the 25th, Nexus Hall, which opened that day at the UNIST College of Engineering, is an intelligent classroom designed to strengthen advanced engineering education. It is equipped with a large LED display and an electronic lectern, along with advanced audiovisual systems.
UNIST emphasized that the classroom was built through cooperation between industry and academia. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will support instructors, class collaboration, and joint projects.
The university said the space will go beyond a simple lecture room and serve as an innovation platform that connects the university, the region, and industry, while supporting education and research in materials, semiconductors, and engineering.

Ulsan Metropolitan City also provided 200 million won in facility installation costs as part of the Ministry of Education's Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project. The city said it plans to strengthen ties with companies and research institutes, including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, by centering on UNIST's research capabilities and talent. The goal is to expand UNIST's role as a hub that leads the AI transformation by bringing together Ulsan's manufacturing base and domestic and international technologies.
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Kim said, "Semiconductors are a core foundation that determines the competitiveness of advanced industries such as artificial intelligence, secondary batteries, and future mobility," adding, "For the continued growth and development of industry, systematically cultivating outstanding talent is more important than anything else."
About 80 people attended the ceremony, including Mayor Kim, UNIST President Park Chong Rae, Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Joo-young, SK hynix Vice President Kim Se-yeon, and other representatives from major domestic semiconductor companies and universities. After their special lectures, Vice Presidents Lee and Kim also held a Q&A session with students.
