Korea National Railway Seeks Developer for Mixed-Use Project at Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line

[Financial News] Korea National Railway has begun accepting proposals for a project operator to develop Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line into a mixed-use complex combining commercial, office and cultural functions. The project will make use of idle railway land in the station area in northwestern Seoul, where three rail lines meet.
According to Korea National Railway on the 25th, the open call will run for 60 days from today through Oct. 23. The site covers 5,598.7 square meters, or about 1,700 pyeong.
Digital Media City Station offers broad access to central Seoul, Incheon International Airport and major areas across the capital region. It is a transfer hub where Seoul Subway Line 6, the Airport Railroad and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line intersect. Nearby are advanced industry clusters such as Sangam DMC and Magok Industrial Complex, as well as large residential areas including Hyangdong Public Housing District and Eunpyeong New Town.
The site was reorganized into a separate zone under a revised higher-level district unit plan announced in December 2024. That change allows the project to move forward independently and gives planners greater flexibility in shaping the development plan.
Korea National Railway will focus its review on plans for a mixed-use development with commercial, office and cultural functions, differentiated designs that reflect the station-area and idle railway land setting, and measures to promote local revitalization while securing both public value and profitability. Given the site's transportation, industrial and residential infrastructure, the key issue in the competition is likely to be how well it balances public interest with business viability.
Lee An-ho, acting chairman of Korea National Railway, said, "Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui Line is a strategic location with excellent transportation access and strong development potential." He added, "We will create a model case for station-area mixed-use development that balances public value and business viability."
