[Financial News] The Kakao labor union is launching collective action against Kakao Corp.'s spin-off plan. It will be the first large-scale rally since Kakao Corp. announced on the 21st that it would separate its KakaoTalk and AI businesses from its subsidiaries and investment operations.
The Kakao branch of the National Chemical, Textile, and Food Industry Labor Union said on the 25th that it will hold a "Declaration Ceremony for Joint Bargaining Against Kakao's Split" and a "Resolution Rally for the KakaoBank Strike" at 1 p.m. on the 26th at Pangyo Station Plaza in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province.
In a statement released on the 21st, the union said that even if the legal entities are separated after the spin-off, major management decisions and labor issues should still be handled at the Kakao community level.
At the ceremony, the union plans to state its opposition to the spin-off itself and present joint bargaining items including responsible management, job security, and prior consultation on any organizational restructuring.
Meanwhile, the rally on the 26th will also include a resolution for a full-scale strike at KakaoBank Corp. over prolonged wage and performance-based compensation negotiations. Members of KakaoBank Corp., which has already carried out two short-term strikes, are expected to begin a five-day full strike from the 31st through the 4th of next month.
